Wrath of God
2005, installation

This installation has nothing to do with 9/11.

I began studies for these drawings in the summer of 2000. The original intent was to do a series of large scale drawings,
each executed in a realistic, labored manner. On the surface the drawings would be serious, but somehow in their
seriousness, they would really just be ridiculous. At the time, I found the idea of young, hip new yorkers looking up into
the sky in fear at some undefined menace, (UFO? judgement day? suicide? bad ad? wrath of god?) very,
very, funny.

After 9/11, I abandoned this idea and I didn’t start drawing again until 2004.

This installation is not so much about the actual drawings (I see them as a means to an end), as it is about context.
So I guess maybe this installation is about 9/11 after-all.
