The main organizational idea for the redesign started with the unconventional nameplate on the cover. Freed from the newstand, and the responsibility to draw readers to the magazine from a distance, the new nameplate functioned as a device for bringing the reader into the magazine. It became part of the table of contents which flowed from the cover, into and thru the magazine.
