5 days That Shook the World:
Seattle and Beyond
2001, paperback cover design
Client: Verso
1 of 2

What we saw in Seattle across those tumultuous days stretching from November 28 through December 3, 1999, and then in Davos, Switzerland, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Prague was the flowering of a new radical movement in America and across the world, rambunctious, anarchic, internationalist, well informed and in some ways more imaginative and supple than kindred popular eruptions in recent decades.--First sentence of the book.

This book was published in early 2000, so its interesting to see the claims (in the book) of a growing movement aganst globalization uterly altered by 9/11. Where is the “new radical movement in America?”

Take a look a the the placement/crop of the image on the cover. The publisher had just come off of a lawsuit where they were sued for reproducing the likeness of somone on one of their covers without a model release, and so was paranoid about this with our cover. We had no model releases for our cover image (since the image was taken in a caotic environment) so we had to ‘strategically’ crop the image to obsure each face.
