Where’s Our Poster?

Client: Downtown for Democracy

This poster was designed for a fund-raising event for Downtown for Democracy called “Where’s My Democracy?” It was held at The Cooper Union’s Great Hall and featured readings by authors Joyce Carol Oates, Lou Reed, Paul Auster, Jonathan Franzen, Susan Sontag and Dave Eggers among others. I was asked to design a poster that could be sold at the event. I decided that I would silkscreen this poster as well.
This is what I proposed (left).
They liked it. I started printing the night before the event. After printing the first color (white speech bubbles) I found I couldn’t print the second color. After hours of frustration trying to hold 10 pt. Caslon, I ditched the approved design and created something I COULD print.
