This illustration is parody of a terrific Alvin Lustig Cover from 1948.
Good art-direction by Nicholas Blechman (as the piece worked well for the story) and decent execution (if I do say so myself).
The credit accompanying this illustration indicated that this was ‘after’ Mr. Lustig’s cover so I wouldn’t say that this stealing or anything.
However, I have come to think that this type of parody is extreemly questionable. It’s aping for a specific reason--maybe even a ligitimate reason--but nothing new is created. And it’s too easy.
I have taken a similar approach in the past when I felt it was appropriate.
